KATHMANDU, SEP 09 -
Nepal recorded their greatest achievement in cricket, qualifying for the ICC World Cricket League (WCL) Division Three with a 25-run victory over Denmark on Sunday. This win means Nepal finished on top of the group with a perfect record from five matches. Nepal will play second placed and fellow qualifiers USA in the tournament final on Monday.
Nepal's next target will be to finish inside top two in Division Three scheduled to take place in Bermuda next April. And the Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) is in no mood to stay back and relax. "We are exploring ways to improve facilities for the team and to motivate the players," said CAN President Tanka Angbuhang. "We will soon build a strategy. We are also planning to seek help from the government to fund our programmes."
Apart from hosts Bermuda and finalists from Division Four, the Division Three tournament will feature Oman, Italy and Uganda. The top two sides will go to the 2015 World Cup qualifiers in New Zealand in 2014. They will be joined by eight other nations, including six from the ICC Intercontinental One-Day tournament, the third- and fourth-placed teams from Division Two. The top two teams in the qualifiers will eventually make it to the 2015 ICC World Cup proper in Australia and New Zealand. Posted on: 2012-09-10 08:18
