ROLPA, FEB 08 -
Maoist Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal bade farewell to 268 out of 450 disqualified Maoist ex-combatants while directing them to remain “disciplined” while living among civilians. The camp informed that 182 disqualified fighters had already left the camp.

In his address to the departing squad, Dahal hailed their contribution to the peace process. “Keep up the high spirit and remain in discipline while living among civilians. It is best for the peace process and constitution writing,” he said.

However, some of the discharged individuals said they were forced and threatened by the Maoist PLA commanders to continue working for the Maoists by joining the party’s sister wings and not to leave the party even if they are said to start a civilian life.

A disqualified combatant said, prior to their departure, that they were briefed about their future jobs in the party and their area. “The party has warned that it will come after us if we did not show up in our assigned areas after one month,” she said requesting anonymity. She said the party has recorded the address and phone numbers of all disqualified soldiers. One of the disqualified PLA combatants, Sharad Wali of Dang, said he wasn’t interested to work for the party anymore. “Once we return home, it is for us to decide which party to work for,” he said.
