KATHMANDU, NOV 04 - Deputy Prime Minister Bijaya Kumar Gachhadar on Wednesday put forth a condition of disarming the Maoist combatants before striking any agreement with the Unified CPN (Maoist), the former rebel party.
Speaking at a programme in the capital today, DPM Gachhadar said,” First of all there should be management of their army, arms and paramilitary structure,” adding,” Only after that there can be agreement with them”.
Gachhedar, also the Chairman of Madheshi Janadhikar Forum-Loktantrik, claimed that it was a mistake to usher the Maoists into the Parliament and their army, with arms, into the cantonment.
He remarked that the decision made by the then seven-party alliance was made in haste and that they had made mistake while signing the 12-point agreement.
DPM Gachhdar added that he does not agree with the use of word ‘integration’ regarding the management of the Maoists army.
Saying that the politically indoctrinated army cannot be integrated into the national army, he stressed on their management.
He said that the Maoists have already breached the Comprehensive Peace Agreement and added that they want to establish their supremacy in the name of civilian supremacy.
