New lead in 13-year-old’s murder

KANTIPUR REPORT
KATHMANDU, SEP 22 - Police investigations have revealed that 13-year-old Sushma Tamang (Majhi) was killed by two individuals—her friend and the landlord's son. A preliminary investigation suggests that Tamang died when the duo attempted to sexually assault her.

The police found the dead body of Tamang, who was studying in the third grade in Kankeshwori Secondary School at Dallu, in a decomposed state with injuries on Friday evening. Tamang had been missing for the previous four days.

The alleged murderers—identified as 16- year-old Arjun Lama and Rajesh Maharjan—had ventured out with Tamang on Tuesday evening. According to the police, Lama, who was arrested in Chitwan on Sunday, has confessed that Tamang died when the two attempted to sexually abuse her by closing her mouth and nose. Maharjan has not yet confessed to his crime.

Lama has also confessed that the two of them were both involved in the incident. The cause of death has not been ascertained as the postmortem report has not come out, said Inspector Deepti Karki, who is investigating the case. Tamang had been living in a rented apartment with her family and was originally from Sindhuli.

Maharjan was allegedly drinking with Tamang's father and others before accompanying Lama and Tamang on Tuesday evening.

Meanwhile, the police on Monday made public 18-year-old Kishor K.C., the alleged murderer of five-year-old Abhisekh Gurung, at Kapan. During his interrogation, K.C. confessed to the police that Gurung fell unconscious after he was slapped by K.C. for finding a Rs. 5 note—allegedly stolen by Gurung. K.C. then hanged Gurung with his shirt in a bid to prove the incident as suicide, said Superintendent of Police Nawa Raj Silwal, in-charge of Metropolitan Police Range, Hanumandhoka.

In another incident, the police arrested Subash Shrestha with contraband pharmaceutical drugs from Dallu. The police recovered 120 packets of Noofen and 125 packets of Diazepam from Shrestha's possession.
