PM offer came my way, claims Poudel

KANTIPUR REPORT
I told Prachanda that our support will remain with the current government
TANAHUN, SEP 12 - Nepali Congress (NC) Parliamentary Party (PP) leader Ram Chandra Poudel on Saturday claimed that he has recently turned down the Maoist ofto become the prime minister.

Poudel said after his refusal to take up the offer Unified CPN (Maoist) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal is trying to convince NC President Girija Prasad Koirala to make his daughter Sujata the prime minister.

According to the NC PP leader, he responded to the Maoist offer by saying that he will not be lured into the temptation showed by the Maoists, who he said, have been losing support of other parties. "I told Prachanda that our support will remain with the current government," he said at a programme organised by NC-Tanahun in Damauli today.

Stating the Maoists' act of boycotting the Parliament in the name of civilian supremacy clearly shows they do not want to write the new constitution, Poudel added, "It will be wise for the Maoists to give up their stance and assist in constitution drafting."

He further said the Madhav Kumar Nepal-led government will not be toppled just by giving in to the greed shown by the Maoists.
