KATHMANDU, OCT 03 -
The Rastriya Prajatantra Party-Nepal (RPP-N) said on Wednesday that its Chairman Kamal Thapa will not be contesting the Constituent Assembly polls under the first-past-the-post (FPTP) election.
RPP-N central member and Thapa’s press advisor Mohan Shrestha informed that the party has decided to field Thapa as a candidate under the Proportional Representa-tion system.
Last week, the party had announced 196 candidates under the PR category, proposing Thapa as a future prime minister. Thapa needs to focus on election preparations, campaigning and has to carry out all poll-related responsibilities so he has decided to contest under the PR system, Shrestha said. Earlier, Thapa was defeated from Kath-mandu-5 and Makwan-pur-1 in the 2008 election.
Meanwhile, the party has decided to field senior leader Keshar Bahadur from Lalitpur-1 and leader Rajaram Shrestha from Kathmandu-5. On Wedn-esday, the RPP-N annou-nced candidates for 39 more constituencies.
