KATHMANDU, SEP 21 -

The Kathmandu Metropolitan City ( KMC ) has expedited its preparations to develop Maitighar to Bagbazaar and Bishnumati corridor section as a model area in the Capital.

The plan includes stone paving on 10-km footpath, development of a sewerage system and replacement exiting electric poles with new ones, management of streetlights and alternate electric feeder or solar power. “We have asked the Ministry of Energy for an alternate feeder line to ensure uninterruptible power supply during pick hours,” said Kedar Bahadur Adhikari, KMC chief.

Besides, the existing metal and concrete road dividers will be replaced with green dividers and a mechanism will be formed to manage wastes in the area. Adhikari informed that the stone paving would be carried out with the financial support from the ADB, while the KMC will use its own resources for the rest of the work.

Meanwhile, the KMC and Nepal Automobile Dealers Association have decided to set up green road dividers in the Durbarmarg area.
