Yuv Raj clinches Mardeka Cup golf
KATHMANDU, SEP 09 -
Yuv Raj Gurung clinched the title of the Malaysian Mardeka Cup golf tournament held at the Royal Nepal Golf Course on Saturday.
Gurung, who scored 36 points, were followed Samir Acharya and Prem Prabhat Gurung with 34 and 33 points respectively.
Likewise, Rekha Ghimire stood atop in the women’s category with 25 points, while runner-up Sandhya Rai and second runner-up Pawitra Yakthumba scored 25 and 24 respectively.
The winners in both the categories were gifted two-way tickets from Kathmandu to Kuala Lumpur along with the trophies.
In the senior’s category, Suman Limbu, Mani Prasad Rai and Lieutenant General KNS Thapa were on the podium with 31, 29 and 29 points respectively. Rai and Thapa scored equal points but the former pipped on countback.
Jung Chul Pyo claimed the winner’s trophy in diplomat’s category, Super Senior award went to Major Narendra K Rai and Sonam Lama bagged the junior title.
Rabin Raj Bijayananda scored the most birdies, Dinesh Karki hit the longest drive and Deepak Rajbhandary was closest to the pin.
Likewise, Best Sports-manship award went to Rabi Paudel and Major Man Bahadur Limbu had the best gross in the two-day tournament played in the 3/4 stableford format that drew 76 participants.
