Apex Jawan bag Street Football Cup
KATHMANDU, AUG 20 -
Apex College plans to take street football to new heights in Kathmandu. To achieve the goal, the college on Sunday organised a 16-team tournament on the college’s premises, which saw Apex Jawan produce a 4-0 win over Team Nyakar to take the championship trophy.
Rasana Dangol of the organising committee said the college had plans to hold a bigger event in the coming days depending on the success of this tournament.
“We want to promote the game in Kathmandu and this event is a demo,” she said. “When we organise a bigger event, it will be an open tournament, somewhere in Basantapur or Patan.”
The total number of teams were divided into four groups, with four teams in each group. Two teams from each group advanced to the quarter-finals.
The organisers have tried their best to match the international requirements by using a 60X40 ft surface that is wrapped around by a carpet.
The organisers claim it is the first event of its kind in South Asia.
