APF personnel 'scuffle' with women
BANKE, AUG 05 - A scuffle between officials of the Armed Police Force ( APF ) and three women took place at Birendra Chowk in Nepalgunj, Banke, on Sunday.
The women claimed that two APF officials beat them after they refused to bribe the officials during a check when they were bringing goods from India.
However, the APF officials denied the allegation. One of the two APF officials, DSP Prem Prasad Pandey, said the women--Asmita Gharti, Lalita Chaudhary and Bina Khadka--were carrying goods from India without paying taxes.
Pandey said they followed the bus in which the women were travelling, acting on a tip-off that 200 pieces of cloth were being smuggled under a seat. The officials claimed that many women were involved in smuggling goods to Nepal across the Indian border.
Police have taken the women into custody to investigate the matter.
