YAN promotes Parshuram
KATHMANDU, JUL 29 -
District leader of the CPN-UML-aligned Youth Association Nepal (YAN) Parshuram Basnet, who is said to have masterminded the attack on Biratnagar-based journalist Khila Nath Dhakal, has been promoted to a central committee member of the outfit.
A recent national cadres' gathering of the YAN promoted him to the Central Committee. YAN Chairman Mahesh Basnet had proposed his promotion claiming that "accusations against him had been proved baseless." A YAN leader said the proposal was endorsed even though it was floated despite some leaders' objection.
Before being dragged into a controversy, Basnet was vice-chairperson of the YAN Morang chapter. The YAN also inducted 18 district leaders, including Durga Gautam (Jhapa), Himal Limbu (Sunsari), Niranjan Jha (Saptari), Prabhat Katuwal (Khotang), Harka Rai (Solukhumbu), Tempa Singhi Lama (Rasuwa), Niresh Lal Singh (Kathmandu) and Manohar Budhathoki, to the Central Committee.
Meanwhile, the YAN said it would capture vehicles provided to former VIPs and unveiled a 10-day agitation programme "with target on controlling irregularities".
