Oli eyes PM chair
KATHMANDU, JUL 18 -
If his Tuesday's statement is anything to go by, CPN-UML leader KP Sharma Oli let the cat out of the bag saying that he is ready to lead a new government.
"I am ready to lead the government if the Nepali Congress (NC) fails to take stewardship of a new government," he said. Oli, who denied the possibility of another Maoist-led government, said his party's first priority is to form a national unity government under the NC's leadership.
"If Nepali Congress cannot lead the government, UML will propose a prime ministerial candidate. Some comrades have proposed my name in this regard and I am thankful to them," said Oli at the Tribhuwan International Airport upon his arrival from South Africa. He, however, clarified that he was not after the post just for its sake.
A section of UML leaders close to Oli, including the party secretary, have publicly stated that if the NC fails to field a prime ministerial candidate, UML would propose Oli's name for the post. "If given a chance, I will lead the government in a better and effective manner," said Oli.
