Nidhi’s hush-hush ‘foreign’ trip
KATHMANDU, MAR 22 -
Ignoring the party’s whip to be present in the country for negotiation on peace and constitution, Nepali Congress lawmaker Bimalendra Nidhi embarked on a foreign trip on Tuesday.
He is one of the key negotiators on the constitutional issues at the Constitutional Committee and Dispute Resolution Subcommittee. Both political and security sources confirmed that he left Nepal through Qatar Airways at 9 pm on Tuesday.
The visit breaches the whip issued by NC on Sunday that bars lawmakers from travelling outside the country till May 27. However, Nidhi’s family sources told the Post that he had travelled to his village in Dhanusa and would return within five days.
“I am not aware of any such visit. I have no information on any programme that he is attending,” said NC Chief Whip Laxman Prasad Ghimire.
Meanwhile, CPN-UML Chairman Jhala Nath Khanal is leaving for New Delhi
on Thursday for medical a check-up. Khanal’s aide Rambabu Adhikari said his date of return depends on the progress of Khanal’s treatment.
UML too issues whip
The CPN-UML has instructed its lawmakers not to leave the Capital until the May 27 deadline for constitution promulgation without the party’s permission.
The Parliamentary Party issued a whip underscoring the need of lawmakers’ presence in Kathmandu for concluding the peace and constitution-making processes.
The party has also urged its lawmakers to attend the Constituent Assembly sessions regularly and asked those lawmakers who are currently outside the Capital to return to Kathmandu by Sunday.
