'Security lapse in Shah's murder should be probed'

KATHMANDU, Feb 09 - Deputy Prime Minister Sujata Koirala on Tuesday pointed out the need for carrying out investigation over the lapse on part of the security personnel in the broad daylight murder of media entrepreneur Jamim Shah.

Koirala, who reached Shah's residence at Panipokhari this morning to meet the bereaved family, said the easy escape of the manslayers from a place considered to be the safest or the VIP area  has raised questions over the role of police personnel.

Saying that the law and order situation has been deteriorating in the capital,  the DPM said the security personnel’s role in maintaining the peace and security should be probed. “This incident has shown how poor is our security situation,” said Minister Koirala.

State Minister for Home Affaris Rijwan Ansair yesterday laid the blame on the security personnel for the escape of Shah’s killers. He claimed the investigations are gradually unfolding the facts and reaching close to the killers.

Yesterday itself, Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal had also visited the family of slain media entrepreneur Shah at the latter's residence and assured his family members that the government would leave no stones unturned to bring Shah's assailants to justice.

Two masked men who came on a motorcycle shot Shah dead in broad daylight in front of the French Embassy in Lazimpat, Kathmandu on Sunday.

FNJ to demonstrate in capital

Meanwhile, Federation of Nepalese Journalist (FNJ) is also staging a demonstration in the capital today, to protest the murder of Space Time Network Chairman Jamim Shah's murder.

Media personnel are staging demonstration to press for immeidate action against those involved in Shah's murder.

The FNJ is scheduled to take out a rally from the Exhibition Road at three this afternoon and will end at Basantapur.

The joint meeting of the FNJ, Television Broadcast Association (TBA), Media Society and Radio Broadcasters Nepal held on Monday decided to demonstrate against the murder today.
