CA term should not be extended: DPM Gachhadar
GHORAHI, Feb 09 - Deputy Prime Minister Bijay Kumar Gachhadar said on Tuesday that the term of the Constituent Assembly should not be extended.
Mentioning that the new constitution must be drafted within the May 28 deadline, he opined that no one should demand for the extention of the CA's term.
Speaking at a press meet organised by Dang district chapter of the Federation of Nepali Journalist in Ghorahi today, DPM Gachhadar said the major parties should take the responsibily for not extending the term.
He said the new constitution can be drafted within eight to ten days if the UCPN (Maoist), Nepali Congress and the CPN-UML come to terms.
'"HLPM illegitimate"
DPM claimed that the High Level Political Mechanism is illegitimate as the constitution doesn't have the provision any kind of mechanism.
He said the government doesn't believe in the mechanism as it has been engaged in the game of toppling the government.
Maoists to blame for misconduct of discharged fighters
The UCPN (Maoist) must own up responsibility if discharged People's Liberation Army (PLA) combatants commit crime, said the DPM .
"The Maoist party would be responsible, if the disqualified PLA fighters indulge in illegal activities."
His remarks comes a day after the discharge process of disqualified Maoist combatants concluded.
As many as 4,008 PLA personnel were sent home either for being underage or late recruitment.
Gachhadar said the government will not be accountable for any misconduct that the discharged Maoist soldiers may commit.
"Ex-combatants not in Nepal Army"
Referring to UNMIN-verified PLA combatants, he said they should not be integrated in the national Army, as the politically indoctrinated Maoist soldiers could demolish the structure of the Nepal Army. He suggested that the Maoist soldiers take on other government-created jobs and opportunities.
"The government has given them many options. They could study, get a job or run their own business. They could even enter politics. It is for them to decide, but they cannot be merged in the national army," the deputy prime minister said.
