British taskforce to suggest on resumption of military aid
KATHMANDU, Feb 09 - Visiting UK Army Chief General Sir David Julian Richards met Defense Minister Bidhya Bhandari at the latter's office in Kathmandu on Tuesday.
During the one-hour long meeting, the UK army chief stressed on the need for restructuring the Defense Ministry.
Richards also said that a taskforce under the leadership of UK army will be sent to Nepal for carrying out studies on Nepal Army (NA) and that the entire British military aids would be resumed as per the taskforce's suggestion.
The British government had stopped its military aid to NA after Royal takeover in 2005.
During the meeting, Defense Minister Bhandari had urged Richards for resumption of the British military aid.
Earlier on Sunday, the British Army Chief had called on Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal during which he had pledged to provide full assistance to Nepal on army integration and rehabilitation process of the Maoist combatants.
He also made commitments to increase its aid to NA
Richards is on a six-day official visit to Nepal.
He is the ninth UK army chief to visit Nepal.
