MAKWANPUR, Nov 22 - An appellate court in Hetauda in Makwanpur district has concluded that court’s interim order is not necessary for the arrest of State Minister for Agriculture and Cooperatives Karima Begam, who is facing an assault charge.

On Sunday, the court bench presided by justices Ekraj Acharya and Mohanraman Bhattarai ruled out the requirement of a court interim order to arrest Begam after the representatives from Zonal Police Office, Birgunj, and District Police Office, Parsa, did not heed to the court’s subpoena.

The appellate court, based on the case registered by plaintiff side, on Wednesday had summoned representatives from the Zonal Police Office and the District Police Office along with written statement explaining whether to arrest Begam on assault charge pressed against her by Durga Prasad Bhandari, the former Chief District Officer of Parsa.  The plaintiff has filed a suit against Begam under Public Crime and Punishment Act 2027.

District Police Office, Parsa, had issued an arrest warrant against Begam, but she has not been arrested as of yet.

Meanwhile, government employees in Parsa staged two-hour of pen-down programme on Sunday to protest the government’s failure to punish Begam.
