Big three-party meeting put off

Kathmandu, Nov 19 - The scheduled meeting of the top leaders of big three parties was put off onThursday as the meeting of the task force formed to finalise the joint resolution motion to be tabled at the parliament ended inconclusively.

The meeting of the three-member task force was postponed for tomorrow morning after it failed to make any concrete decision owing to lack of necessary homework, Nepali Congress (NC) leader Krishna Sitaula said.

Sitaula represented NC at today's task force meeting on the absence of Arjun Narsingh KC.

Apparently, the meeting failed to make headway after both the sides stuck to their guns.

The task force comprising Maoist leader Dev Gurung, NC leader Arjun Narshingh KC and UML’s Yubaraj Gyawli was revived yesterday in a bid to forge consensus to defuse the protracted political deadlock.

A meeting of the major three parties—UCPN (Maoist), NC, and CPN-UML had decided to amend the content of the proposed joint resolution motion, in a move aimed at forging an agreement before the expiry of the Maoists’ deadline to announce another round of protests.

The Maoists had issued an ultimatum of November 20, which is due to expire tomorrow, to meet their demands regarding the President’s ‘unconstitutional’ move, which they say, was against ‘civilian supremacy’.
