The UCPN (Maoist) has issued an ultimatum of one week to launch its third-phase of protest programmes if the government did not fulfill its demands.

Addressing a mass gathering at Bhrikuti Mandap in the capital today, Maoist Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal declared that his party has given the final ultimatum of Nov. 20 for the establishment of civilian supremacy and rectification of President's 'unconstitutional' move reinstating the then army chief. He warned to intensify their protests in the third-phase.

"We will give an ultimatum of November 20," said Dahal, while addressing the gathering of thousands of Maoist supporters, "We will resort to offensive protests if those residing at Singha Durbar failed to pay heed to our demands until then."

Saying that the ongoing protest was launched for the peace and to defend the Constituent Assembly (CA), Dahal made it clear that his party would not make any compromise in the name of 'civilian supremacy'.

Likewise, Maoist Vice Chairman and People's Movement Struggle Committee Chairman Dr Baburam Bhattari ruled out the possibility of institutionalising republic in the country unless the president's move was nullified.

He claimed the move taken by President Dr Ram Baran Yadav by scrapping then Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal's decision has kept the army above the government and breached the civilian supremacy.

The UCPN (Maoist), which continued its Singha Durbar siege on Friday until 2 this afternoon, announced the conclusion of its second phase protests at a mass meeting organised at the exhibition road.
