Border residents forced to go to Indian banks
People of Nawalparasi district are compelled to go to Indian banks across the border as Nepali banks which were moved during the insurgency have not returned.
Locals of Maheshpur, Pratappur, Triveni, Semari and other border areas rely on Indian banks for their banking transactions. During the insurgency, the Nepal Bank branch at Maheshpur and Banijya Bank and Agricultural Development Bank branches at Triveni, Semari and Pratappur were shifted to the district headquarters and Bardaghat Bazaar.
The displaced banks are yet to return to the villages though peace has returned to the country.
However, service seekers complain that they can only deposit
and withdraw money at the
Indian banks. Nepali nationals have been receiving banking service
in Bargadwa, Thulibari, Nich-
laul, Laxmipur, Bahubar and other areas.
Ajay Patel, a local of Kushma VDC, said they were compelled to use Indian banks as Nepali banks were confined to the headquarters and along the highway. Patel said that the Indian banks have not issued loans to Nepali nationals, as they do not allow property valuation of Nepalis.
